Double wakeboard gold

Parksville’s Syvannah McNichol skims to national water sport success in Bala, Ontario

It was a summer to remember for Parksville’s Syvannah McNichol, who capped off her wakeboarding season with two gold medals at the National Wake Championships in Bala, Ontario.

McNichol, who rides with the Sproat Lake Water Sports Association, picked up the two gold medals in the girls’ U-15 straight cable and boat wakeboarding events.

Along with two other riders from the Sproat Lake group, McNichol and company brought home a total of four gold medals, two silver and a bronze.

“They did everything right,” said coach Tanner Champion.

“They had been riding well all summer and their hard work paid off. The consistency in their training improved gradually over the summer and ultimately came to at the nationals.”

All in all, it was quite the feat for McNichol, who will look to continue to improve and be back in the hunt for more gold next year on the water.
