Vernon’s Matt Downton was a double medalist at the Vancouver Racquet Club Summer Badminton Tournament.
Downton, a Seaton grad who will play collegiate badminton for the Langara Falcons in Vancouver this season, bowed 21-11, 21-14 to top-seeded Derrick Ng in the men’s open singles final.
In mixed open doubles, Downton and Athea Poon reached the finals, where they lost 2-1 (21-18, 13-21, 21-15) to No. 1 Ng and Alisa Aktary. Downton and Poon were ranked third.
Matt’s dad, Terry, won the men’s B singles title over Andy Wong.
