Caden Doyle rang up three tries as the Fulton Maroons grounded the Salmon Arm Golds 31-12 in North Zone Junior Boys Rugby League action Wednesday at Grahame Park.
Greg Geistlinger and Isiah Foureyes added one try apiece, while Kyle Karens was 3-for-5 on conversions.
“As a coaching staff, we were really happy with the effort our kids gave,” said Fulton head coach Mike Scheller. “We have improved a lot since our exhibition games a week ago. I thought our backs played unselfish and moved the ball well and we did a good job of attacking open space and running to daylight.
“Doyle is a very dangerous runner and he had some nice scores. Fullback Kyle Karens continues to impress, and he is calm under pressure. Standoff Ike Olson and centre Koalden Oakden were also very good for our backs.”
The Maroons went 1-2 at the weekend Kamloops Rugbyfest, losing 35-0 to Kent, Wash., falliung 22-5 to South Kam Titans and stopping Salmon Arm 10-0.
Scheller said forwards coaches Brad Marsh and Gord Cheyne have done a great job instructing the forward pack.
“Our scrums were solid and our lineouts were very strong,” said Scheller. “The forwards are working well as a unit. Foureyes was all over the field making tackles and hustling to rucks. Tyson Sampert had a very physical game for us as well, and hooker Ryan Rumsey is also playing well. Scrum half Satchel McDermid is doing very well at directing our attack.”
The Fulton schedule is in flux with teams dropping out and the Okanagan Sevens Tournament cancelled.
