Dr. Lee denies No. 1 contender

It was a clash of the titans as the top two teams in the North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Masters Division collided Tuesday night.

Dr. Lee/Squires Four Pub downed the Chick Kickers 4-1 at Marshall Field #3.

Jacquie Hansen set up Jill Rintoul, who blasted one from 20 yards to open the scoring for Dr. Lee (13-0-1).

With minutes remaining in the first half, Lori Shippy found Rintoul in tight who buried it short side.

In the second half, Irene Arrotta found Hansen 40 yards down the field, and Hansen was able to slide one past the keeper.

The Kickers (11-2-1) trimmed the lead down to two, but Shippy put the game on ice with a header on a lovely cross from Deanna Baker.

The defensive line of Bobbi Powell, Dana Reid, and Melissa Tkachuk shut down the Chick Kickers forwards throughout the match

Rosters, VQA play to a draw

The Rosters tied the Vernon Square Liquor Store VQA 4-4 at Marshall Field #2.

Renee Cooke sniped a hat trick for the Rosters (1-12-1) with a pair of helpers coming from Denise Bateman. Becky McLennan added a single as the Rosters bounced back from their biggest loss of the season.

Keeper Peggy Schepp battled through injuries to preserve the tie for Rosters.

VQA (4-7-2) trailed 4-2 with 20 minutes remaining when Carla Gibson headed home a goal that looked like it was a highlight from the World Cup.

Jane Sutton sniped a pair and Gibson added one more.

Impact ices Controllers

The Gray Monk/Longhorn Pub Impact blanked the Controllers 2-0 at MacDonald Park.

Kim Wiebe scored a right-footed cross from 20 yards for the Impact (8-2-3) and Janelle Smithson tapped in the winner from Suzie McGuigan.

The Controllers (6-6-2) thought they scored the equalizer minutes later, but the play was ruled offside.

Denise Bourdon was hustling all over, winning battles for the ball and keeper Derri Ann Cooper returned with a shutout.
