A well known drag racer from Kelowna, who spent time in Terrace, has passed away after his race car was unable to stop at speeds of more than 200 km per hour.

Gary Hough had visited Terrace in 2008 to showcase his car with the Terrace Drag Racing Association (TDRA), and take part in its Riverboat Days  float and the Hot August Nites event.

Dennis Moore from the TDRA said Hough was an old-school drag racer who had been in the sport for years, and was known province-wide.

“It’s a huge loss,” Moore said. “We have lost kind of an icon in B.C.”

He said Hough and his wife enjoyed their time in Terrace, noting the hospitality of locals.

“They took in a lot of the festivities….they really enjoyed the area,” Moore said.
