Drillers feel Impact

The Okanagan Impact parlayed two goals from Shelinda Morin into a 5-2 victory over Goplen Drillers Tuesday night at Marshall #5.

Liz Thomson, Heather Findlay and Janelle Smithson also scored as the Impact improved to 2-3-1 in the North Okanagan Women’s Soccer Association Masters Division.

Morin was fabulous on the attacking line all night, while terrific work was turned in by Lisa Boer on defence and Thomson in the middle.

Lena Urquhart scored both goals for the Drillers, who dipped to 2-3.

The Vernon Controllers spotted the Shuswap Kaos an early 2-0 lead before roaring back for a 5-3 win at Salmon Arm Savings & Credit Union Park.

The Controllers responded when Emma Louis’s throw-in found Deanna Baker, who one-touched a pass to Ang Durfeld, who drove the ball to the back of the net.

Minutes later, Jacquie Nuyens set up a beautiful goal by Baker from 20 yards out. Nuyens scored off a scramble in the 30th minute to put the 4-0-1 Controllers ahead for good.

One minute into the second half, Krista Backer beat two defenders and passed it back to Danielle Dunsmore, who drove it off the bar and in from 15 yards out.

Less than a minute later, Louis made short work of a Baker corner to put the Controllers up by three. Kaos (0-4-1) got one back on a penalty kick with 10 minutes remaining.

Playing in her first game, keeper Michelle Mercer played well and could not be faulted on any of the goals against. Louis was dominant at striker, midfield and fullback, earning Player of the Match.

The Shuswap Merlot stuffed the Seasons in the Okanagan Sistas 6-0 in Salmon Arm.

The Sistas were without their injured keeper and lost Kelly Tisdale and Chellaine Harms to muscle pulls in the first half. Substitute keeper Andrea Zubot used some booming kicks that helped the exhausted Sistas move out of their half, often landing to roadrunner forward Kim Sylvester.

The half ended 3-0 and Zubot was replaced with fill-in forward Coca Fair, who faced lots of action. Leslie Williams played every position except net and was awarded most Versatile Woman of the Match.

Coach Kerry Zubot said the Sistas were “definitely the best looking team out there tonight, sporting their new lime green uniforms.”

The first-place Chick Kickers went to 5-0 by edging Monashee’s 1-0 at Marshall #3. Monashee’s fell to 1-3-1.

In Competitive Division play, Anita Rea was an amazing fill-in keeper as the Little Tex Outlaws bounced the AF Blazers 3-0 at Marshall #2.

The Little Tex goals were supplied by Jordan Mercer, off a free kick well outside the 18 that sailed over the keeper’s head, Jenn Kemper, off a free kick, and Monica Neilson, who worked hard all night creating magic up front.

Stephanie Stewart had a great night with several sweet crosses and hard runs down the side.

The Outlaws (3-1) used a true team effort for the win, getting stellar defence and vocal support from injured players on the sidelines.

The Blazers received strong defensive games from Samantha Greene, Jane Higgins, Amber Maltman. Amanda Swales had her first shot on net hit the post. Signi MacNeill, Samantha Dally, Carissa Morneau and Jenny Hatten tried hard to break the Little Tex defence.

Maddie Kaneda pulled the hat trick as the Dr. Lee Dental Clinic/Checkers ambushed the North Enderby Timber Celtics 7-1 at Marshall #1.

Kaneda opened the scoring after a great feed from Steph Wilson. Jacquie Hansen made it 2-0 before half after a great run.

Dr. Lee keeper Lisa Arrotta recorded a great save off a free kick blast from 20 yards out off the foot of Gabrielle Ghattas just before halftime.

Alana Rehman scored 10 minutes into the second half, converting a through ball from Kaneda.

Loren Brunelle made it 4-0 on a rocket shot from just inside the 18-yard area for her first goal of the season.

Kaneda got her second goal of the night on a great individual play, stealing the ball from a defender and blasting the ball into the net.

Rehman got her second goal of the game finishing of a great feed from Ally Dodds. The Celtics responded on a goal from Jodi Bariesheff before Kaneda completed the hat trick. Celtics’ keeper Taryn Lloyd made some great saves.

Checkers went to 2-2, while NET fell to 1-3.
