The Tri-Port Speedway’s Dust Bowl Weekend on Aug. 22 and 23 certainly lived up to its name.
Dust flew and engines roared all weekend at the Tri-Port Speedway.
Morale was high as the weekend saw racers and fans back after a water-restriction imposed hiatus. An Aug. 8 race was cancelled due to water restrictions.
On Sunday afternoon, racers took one of several breaks as the track was hosed down, the water drying on the clay track in what seemed like minutes. The announcer cautioned that “water could actually make it worse,” turning the track from dusty to slippery.
A concession served up burgers with fitting names like “The Pit Crew,” and fans watched from stands and under umbrellas overlooking the track.
