The BC Interior Northern Regional Pony Club Dressage and Showjumping Championships on July 23-24 in Kamloops saw Tiana Dykstra, from Mile 108 finish the weekend with outstanding results.

The 13-year-old, coached by Susanne Poulsen, competed in the C2 13-20 years division with her 17-year-old warmblood mare, Victorious Secret. The pair won the 2’9” jumping division championship and was the reserve winners in dressage level 1.

Victorious Secret also won the mare, top horse trophy.

There were more than 75 competitors at the championships, which was hosted by the Thompson Valley Pony Club at Sun Meadows Equestrian Centre.

Dykstra has been a member with the Sage and Sand Pony Club for five years and Poulsen has coached her the entire time.

Poulsen says her young charge is a very dedicated and focused rider.

“She knows how to have fun at a horse show, but when it comes time to get into the ring, she’s all business and sportsmanlike. She does what needs to be done.”

Poulsen says it’s a tremendous accomplishment for   Dykstra to be riding at a C2 level.

“I’m super proud of her. I put her up a level just a

week before the competition and she only had that week to practice.”
