Dynamiters win KIJHL championship

The Kimberley Dynamiters defeated the Kamloops Storm for the KIJHL title

The Kimberley Dynamiters are Kootenay International Junior Hockey League champions.

The Dynamiters exploded against the Kamloops Storm in Game 6 5-1 on March 29 to clinch the championship 4-2. The Dynamiters opened the scoring at 3:32 of the first period on a goal by Jason Richter, assisted by former Summerland Steam Braden Saretsky, who finished with two assists on the night.

Camerson Trott got the Storm back on even terms, but then the Dynamiters blew up with four unanswered goals by Jordan Busch, Trevor Van Steinburg with two and Justin Meier. Tyson Brouwer made 33 saves in the win. Saretsky finished the series with five goals and five assists, while Penticton native Eric Buckley collected one assist for the Dynamiters.

The Dynamiters now advance to the Cyclone Taylor Cup in Mission April 3 to 6 as the Mission City Outlaws are the hosts. The winner of the Cyclone Taylor Cup will advance to the Junior B Western Canadian Keystone Cup in Cold Lake, Alta., hosted by the Ice April 16 to 19.
