The Sicamous Eagles had a strong weekend highlighted by a 4-1 win over the Chase Heat.
Friday the 13th saw the Eagles spend the evening at the Revelstoke Forum. There, they suffered a 4-3 overtime defeat at the hands of the Grizzlies.
Neither team scored in the first frame, with Revelstoke’s man behind the crease, Chris Wielenga, blocking 13 shots on net, and Eagles’ netminder Max Gaudet stopping 10.
Things changed quickly in the second period, with the Eagles Matthias Urbanski potting an early marker off Jace Woodley. Seconds later, Woodley potted a power-play conversion off Alex Astasiewicz and Urbanski. The Grizzlies responded on a power play near the halfway mark, but the Eagles got the last word with another goal by Woodley, assisted by Urbanski and Austin Miller.
In the third period, the Grizzlies were out for blood and had the Eagles on the run. In the process, the Grizzlies added two more goals and brought the game to a 3-3 standstill before the end of regulation play. In overtime, the Grizzlies’ David Lenzin landed the kill.
Urbanski was named the game’s second star.
On Saturday night, Jan. 14, the Eagles were back at the Sicamous and District Recreation Centre to host the Chase Heat.
Eagles netminder Josh Bolding faced a strong Heat wave in the first frame, but didn’t lose his cool, blocking everything the Chase team sent his way. Zak Larson was doing the same for Chase up until the last two minutes of the period, when he missed a delivery from Spencer Selby, assisted by Ty Tippett and Miller.
Chase turned up the Heat in the second period, but again, were unable to find the back of the net. Meanwhile, the Eagles’ Jordan Bautista potted a power-play conversion off Eric Porter and Astasiewicz.
By the third period, the Heat started to lose steam, while the Eagles continued to find the back of the net. Dominic Dumas delivered a short-handed marker at 10:24 off Woodley and Astasiewicz. Bautista added a single at 4:50 off Porter and Ryan Ignace. With less than three minutes on the clock, the Heat’s Pat Brady was able to score for Chase, meaning the team wouldn’t have to go home empty-handed.
Bautista was named the game’s first star.
