The Sicamous Eagles got on the board but couldn’t pick up a win during a pair of away games last week.
On Tuesday, Jan. 24, the Eagles were in Revelstoke to face off against the Grizzlies.
The Grizzlies started strong in the first frame, outshooting the Eagles and being rewarded with three goals in the process. Two of those goals were on power plays, the Grizzlies’ man advantage owed to a two-minute interference call for Eric Porter, and a 10-minute game misconduct as well as a two-minute head contact penalty for Alex Astasiewicz.
Early in the second, Kade Holodniuk potted a power-play marker off Matthias Urbanski and Jace Woodley, putting Sicamous on the board. The Grizzlies replied near the middle mark with a power-play goal of their own. The Eagles, however, gained momentum over the Grizzlies, and the period concluded with a late power-play goal by Spencer Selby, assisted by Holodniuk and Woodley.
The third period saw the Eagles outshoot the Grizzlies, but netminder Giovanni Sambrielaz was able to block everything the Sicamous visitors threw at him. Over in the Sicamous crease, Josh Bolding put in a respectable performance, up until the Eagles emptied the net to gain the man advantage. But the move backfired, with the Grizzlies adding one more goal before the final buzzer.
The end result, Revelstoke 5, Sicamous 2.
On Friday, Jan. 27, the Eagles were at the Osoyoos Sun Bowl to take on the Coyotes.
The Okanagan Division-leading Coyotes potted three in the first frame, with Urbanski scoring for the Eagles mid-period with an assist by Jordan Bautista.
The Coyotes continued to dominate the game in the second period, adding three more goals to their tally. But Sicamous stayed in the fight, adding two of their own: an unassisted goal by Bautista at 5:50, and a Dominic Dumas single at 2:27, assisted by Woodley and Astasiewicz.
Woodley potted an early power-play marker in the third, with help from Eric Porter and Dumas. The Coyotes got the last word with the game’s final goal.
End result: Coyotes 7, Eagles 4.
Max Gaudet and Josh Bolding shared goaltending duties for the Eagles, collectively stopping 42 out of 49 shots on net.
