Carnarvon Park will be filled with Peewee AAA baseball action this weekend

The Pee Wee AAA Red and Black Eagles are hosting the peewee AAA Provincial Baseball Championships, continuing through July 26 at Carnarvon Park.

Here’s your guide to catching the Greater Victoria teams in action:

Following Thursday’s Day 1 action, that had Victoria Black take on Burnaby and Victoria Red face Ladner, followed by the opening ceremonies, Victoria Red opens play today (July 24) at 9 a.m. versus Vancouver.  Victoria Black follows at noon versus Kamloops.

Victoria Red is back in action at 3 p.m., taking on Coquitlam-Moody, followed by Victoria Black playing Richmond at 6 p.m. Victoria Red opens play Saturday at 9 a.m. against Cloverdale, while Victoria Black faces Abbotsford at noon.

Semifinal play gets underway at 10 a.m. Sunday, with the much-anticipated final at 2 p.m.

Also this weekend, Hollywood Park is hosting the 2015 Softball National Championship Tournament July 25 to 29. The five-day tournament will feature teams from all over the country at two different age groups – Majors, for 11 and 12-year-olds, and Juniors, for 13 and 14-year-olds. Both are vying for a place at the Little League Softball World Series coming up in August in the United States. For more information, visit www.beaconhilllittleleague.org.

And still more in the world of baseball … the B.C. Premier Baseball League championships are also coming up soon, with the host Victoria Eagles welcoming teams July 31 to Aug. 3. The best four teams in the Premier Baseball League will be playing for the championship at Royal Athletic Park on Caledonia Avenue.

As this year’s B.C. champion Bantam Black Eagles get ready for nationals in Vaughan, Ont., planning is already under way for next year.

Registration is underway for the Eagles’ Bantam Tier 1 and Tier 2 teams. Tryouts for the Tier 1 Victoria Black Eagles start on Aug. 3. Manager Bob Mabee will select 16 players, 14 of whom will be on his 2016 roster. Players not selected for the Black Eagles can then try out for the 2016 Red Eagles, playing under manager Graham Campbell. Those tryouts run Aug. 8, 11 and 13.  For more information about this year’s tryouts, visit http://victoriaeagles.com.

Victoria Fastball Club is hosting the U14A Nationals from Aug. 5 to 9. The Devils 2001 and 2002 teams will be taking part, as will the best teams in this age group from across Canada. All games between the 20 different teams will take place at View Royal and Saanich’s Hyacinth Park.

As for a different kind of field action, two Greater Victoria games are on the calendar for the Victoria and District Cricket Association this weekend.  On Saturday, The Incogs will play host to United at St. Michaels University School. The following day, the Islanders Cricket Club will host Cowichan for one game at Beacon Hill Park. Both games will begin at 12:30 p.m.

Looking forward to fall, registration is underway for the Victoria Football League, with practices set to begin Aug. 11. For more information, including information about player draw areas/boundaries for individual teams, visit www.victoriafootball.ca.
