Ebenezer Canadian Reformed School hosted the Northwest Zone Badminton Championships last weekend, with five schools competing in the Smithers Secondary and Bulkley Valley Christian School gyms.
Teams from Terrace and Prince Rupert joined ECRS, with a full day of action at both gyms. Despite having only had two previous playdays, Ebenezer’s team played well, under the guidance of first-time coach Rose Haar.
“All in all it was pretty good,” she said. “They did really well.”
The day featured a number of very close ties, made up of multiple matches by all members of each school’s team. Several ended with 6-5 scores, but by the end of the tournament, Terrace’s Caledonia Secondary took the championship, with four wins. ECRS finished in second place with three. Centennial Christian School from Terrace finished in third. Prince Rupert Secondary finished in fourth, and Charles Hay Secondary finished in fifth.
