Elementary schools hit the track

Corrlieu hosts fun run X-country race for elementary students.

Despite grey skies and pouring rain, elementary runners were determined to have a fun run last Thursday. Teams from all over Quesnel showed up to put their skills on display in the rain.

The Dragon Lake team was the recipient of the top honours in the sr. girls category. The team successfully took over the podium in the 11-year-old category, with Dragon Lake runners Aleesha Bautista, Emily Russell and Camryn Klassen sitting first, second and third respectively. Dragon Lake also took first and second in the 12-year-old category. Dragon Lake Runners Avery Drew and Cassidy Giesbrecht, in first and third respectively, sandwiched second place Sarah Jarvis, from Red Bluff. The 13-year-old category’s podium was more diverse, with St. Ann’s Lauren Osip first, Lakeview’s Haely Pike second and Parkland’s Alexi Christieson in third. The Red Bluff team came in second overall, followed by St.  Ann’s.

The Carson team took first over all in the sr. boys competition, followed by NCCS in second and Red Bluff in third. In the 11-year-old boys competition, Carson’s Thomas Bubela took first, followed by NCCS’s Jade Gibbs and Parkland’s George Prince. In the 12-year-old boys category, Scott Sargent, from NCCS, took first, followed by Dragon Lake’s Brett Mero in second and Carson’s Darby Madill in third. Bouchie Lake’s Curtis Leroux took top honours in the 13-year-old category. Olin Lee, from Lakeview and Chris Thon, from St.  Ann’s followed close behind.

The Red Bluff track team was on the podium again in the jr. girls category, but this time they were on top. Lakeview took second and Dragon Lake took third. The Red Bluff win was helped by domination on the 10-year-old podium, with Red Bluff Runners Jett McCall, Halle Cada and Riley Telford all standing in that order. The nine-year-old category was more diverse. Lakeview’s Brianna Godsoe took first, followed by Red Bluff’s Megan Strand and Caitlyn Duchou from Dragon Lake. Ruby Nichols, from Baker, took the top position in the eight-year-old category, followed by Dragon Lake’s Laura Balkwill and Reese Jacobsen, from Lakeview.

Lakeview took the top spot for jr. boys, followed by Dragon Lake and Carson. Nick Kwiatkowski won the 8 year-old run, with Lakeview runners Matthew Valyck and Domon Lee coming in second and third. Kenny Gerov, from Lakeview, took first for the nine-year-olds, followed by Parkland runner Lee Livingston in second and Barlow’s Rylan Murphy in third. Lakeview runners Jack Handerson and Matthew L. took first and second in the 10-year-old category. Joshua Andres, from NCCS took third.
