Jim Bradshaw couldn’t be happier with the results—but not the ones based on time or distance.

With well over 900 kids from 24 schools taking Tuesday at the Apple Bowl, the Central Okanagan elementary track and field meet exceeded even the event coordinator’s expectations.

“We’re just ecstatic,” said Bradshaw, who gets help putting the event together from fellow teachers Dean Sader and Derek Worrall, among many others. “You can’t ask for anything more, this many kids…it’s bang on, maybe even better than we had hoped.”

In the mid 2000s, the annual meet disappeared due to lack of initiative and interest.

But Bradshaw and many other like-minded educators helped resurrect the event in 2007 and it’s been growing ever since.

Bradshaw said for some students it’s a fun day of activity they can enjoy once a year, while for others it will be a stepping stone to joining the Okanagan Athletics Club, or continuing on with track at their respective middle schools.
