Approximately 85 athletes woke early on Sunday morning to participate in the annual Elkford Triathlon.
The competition, in which participants swim, bike and run to the finish line, has been a staple in the Elkford community for the past six years. Organizer Brad Cromey said this year’s event was another great race.
“The event went very well and always has tremendous support,” he said. “We couldn’t do it without the support of the District of Elkford and all the great volunteers. The vibe was fun, weather was hot and people were racing hard, putting in personal records in every category.”
The race began at the Elkford Community Centre at 8:30 in the morning and the last racers crossed the finish line around 12:30 p.m. Over 30 volunteers helped with everything from timing to cooking after-race meals.
Danny Robdrup took first place in the sprint race with a time of 1:06 and Aaron Glover won the extreme race with a time of 1:21.
