Georgie Ellenwood will wear the Maple Leaf once again.
Ellenwood, who turns 19 next month (Aug. 5) was announced as one of the 42 athletes who will represent Athletics Canada at the IAAF world junior championships, which run July 22 to 27 in Eugene, Ore.
The junior level is for athletes 19 and under.
Ellenwood, who finished her freshman season this past year at the University of Wisconsin, will compete in the heptathlon.
The long-time member of the Langley Mustangs Track and Field Club and graduate of Langley Secondary, has had a decorated career in her sport.
At the high school level, she won four consecutive heptathlon B.C. provincial championship titles and won a total of 13 medals — including 10 gold.
She has previously represented Canada at the youth (17 and under) and junior level and last summer, won bronze in the heptathlon at the Pan-American junior championships in Medellin, Colombia.
Ellenwood is one of two local athletes on the Canadian roster as Trinity Western Spartans’ Regan Yee will compete in the 3000m steeplechase event.
And she enters the competition on a high after winning gold in the 2000m steeplechase and bronze in the 3000m at the Canadian junior track and field championships.
The meet was held July 4 to 6 in St. Therese, Que.
She won the steeplechase with a time of 6:38.81 and finished the 3000m in 9:29.68.
Yee, who is from South Hazelton, B.C., is entering her second year with the Spartans in the fall.
