Kayaking close encounters with humpback whales, porpoising penguins and seals will be the subject of a Feb. 1 meeting of the Comox Valley Paddlers Club.

All are set in the beautiful landscapes of our planet’s remote polar regions, which people may never have a chance to visit, let alone kayak.

Boomer Jerritt has been to the southern Antarctic and northern Svalbard regions more than a dozen times over the past three years. He works with One Ocean Expeditions as photographer-in-residence aboard cruise ships designed for polar exploration.

He has been involved in the photographic industry since his graduation from the Western Pacific Academy of Photography in 1990. Primarily a lifestyle and recreation photographer, his editorial imagery can be seen in various tourism initiatives and publications in B.C. and throughout North America. He has completed three photography books, and teaches at North Island College.

The presentation begins at 7 p.m. at the Lion’s Den, 1729 Comox Ave. behind the Pearl Ellis Art Gallery. Enter off Nordin Street. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Non-members are welcome to attend with a donation at the door to BC Marine Trails.
