Matti Erickson is still waiting for some proper competition. He didn’t have any at the provincial championships.
Erickson won two gold medals and a silver at the B.C. High School Track and Field Championships last weekend in Langley. The Trafalgar student was running against athletes a year older than he is, but still managed to set two provincial records on his way to the podium.
Erickson took gold in the 1,500 metre with a record time of four minutes 12.51 seconds. He was even better in the 3,000, finishing in 9:39.26 — 11 minutes ahead of the next runner. He also took silver in the 800.
L.V. Rogers athlete Anna Milde was also present in the 100 girls’ hurdles and the 100 sprint. Over 2,000 of the province’s top athletes from Grades 8 to 12 gathered for the competition held over a three-day period.
