Ethan Bowen named MVP as Chilliwack Chiefs hand out year-end awards

Bowen led the Chiefs in scoring during the abbreviated BCHL pod season

Chilliwack’s Ethan Bowen is the MVP of the Chilliwack Chiefs’ just-completed pod season.

The hometown kid claimed a pair of trophies as the BCHL team announced its year-end awards.

In addition to the BMO MVP honour, he also snagged the Joey Potskin Top Scorer Award. The 18-year-old forward produced 11 goals and 21 points in 19 games.

Two graduating 20-year-olds, Jackson Munro and Trevor Longo, shared the Orland Kurtenbach Top Defenseman award.

Both players had nice offensive seasons. Longo tallied six goals and 14 points in 20 games while Munro had four goals and 12 points in 20 games. Another defender, 17-year-old Abram Wiebe, was named the team’s Saphire Creative Rookie of the Year after producing three goals and 11 points in 20 outings.

Team captain Kyle Penney won the Bess & Cliff Brew Most Dedicated Player award, sponsored by Club XO, while Sasha Teleguine was named the Kel More Fan Favourite.

Graduating forward Tanner Andrew won the Prime Signs Harmony Cup as the Chiefs’ Unsung Hero, and Lachlan Getz was named the John Tunnicliffe Most Improved Player.

Mathieu Caron’s academic exploits earned him the Ross Beebe Scholastic Player of the Year award. Caron also led the way in the Makita 3-Star rankings, followed by Bowen and Ray Fust.

Dawson Good received the Don Nichols Sr Award for Most Community-Minded Player, sponsored by Younies Restaurant.

Defenceman Xavier Henry was recognized for providing the West End Autobody Crunch of the Year.

Off the ice, Ken Hunt won the Ron Englebrecht Volunteer of the Year Award.
