Sovereign Lake’s Nordic trails offer a very different cross country skiing experience compared to what our racers train on in Revelstoke. Instead of the fierce climbing and descending that is the only option in Revelstoke, Sovereign’s trails are quite flat with a lot of turns.
It is a testament to the technical abilities of our team that they did so well this weekend. Sheer strength doesn’t get you as far when you are trying to race on flat terrain – technique wins out. And our skiers definitely won out!
Megan Evans, dominated the field with a win of well over a minute for the 10 kilometre race. Alana Brittin and Tayla Koerber both won gold, Simon Blackie won silver and Erik Brosch finished fifth.
Elizabeth Elliott kept her momentum from last weekend’s midget championships (where she won gold and bronze medals) with a silver medal in her skate race on Sunday. Nelson Luxmoore got his first ever medal in skate skiing with a bronze, and his sister Alexandra, not to be outdone, showed a strong sixth place finish for her first top 10 finish of the year.
Every Revelstoke skier had a top ten finish:
