Exciting comeback not enough

The Salmon Arm Bantam Tier 2 Silvertips hosted their home tournament this past weekend.

The Salmon Arm Bantam Tier 2 Silvertips hosted their home tournament this past weekend.

They opened the 12- team tourney with a 4-2 victory over league rivals Kelowna.

In their second game, Salmon Arm skated to a 7-1 win over Prince George.

In the Saturday afternoon tilt, the Silvertips played for top spot in their pool against Semiahmoo but came up on the short end of a 5-3 loss.

Despite the loss, Salmon Arm qualified for the wild-card spot and advanced to the semifinals where they met Semiahmoo for the second time.

The Silvertips were down 5-1 going into the third period but mounted a furious comeback. Riley Jepson scored a hat trick as Salmon Arm scored four powerplay goals to make the game tight.

The contest ended with a frenzied scramble as Salmon Arm pulled their goalie for the extra attacker but Semiahmoo held on for a 6-5 victory.

Semiahmoo went on to the final where they defeated Vancouver 4-1 to win the tournament.

Zach Fournier, Logan Mostat, Brad Whitehead, and Riley Jepson were recognized as game MVPs for Salmon Arm.
