The KVR Express girls Grade 8 basketball team earned a 44-33 victory over Vernon Secondary on Saturday.
The Express were led by Kayley Davies, who scored 13 points to go with eight steals. Kalli Doel also contributed seven points with four steals, while Jennifer Hayman had six with eight rebounds. Mckenna Clarke added five points.
“This was a good win for us against a strong opponent,” said Express coach Chris Terris. “We shot the ball as poorly as we have all year — 31 per cent from the field and 29 per cent from the foul line — but we battled hard and found a way to win, which is what good teams do.”
In the fourth quarter, Davis single-handedly turned the momentum with several key steals and hoops after Vernon had tied the game and put us on our heels. Terris said she provided the spark they needed.
