The 5th Annual Dallas Faeh Memorial Volleyball Tournament was held Aug. 13 at the Quesnel Youth Soccer Complex.
The coed tournament is organized by family and friends to honour the memory of Dallas Faeh who died Sept. 3, 2006.
“He was my roommate and best friend,” Mike Stone said.
“He wasn’t a huge volleyball fan but most of his friends were.
“The tournament is a way to get everyone together to celebrate with each other, catch up and share memories.”
This year, 18 teams participated several of which came from Prince George.
Despite the stiff competition from the Prince George teams, it was local teams that prevailed in each of the divisions.
The toughest competition was in the competitive A-division that saw two teams of volleyball heavyweights go head to head for the tournament championship.
The Doin’ it Live team, comprised of local volleyball icons Justin Merta, middle with the University of Alberta Golden Bears and Trevor Briggs, assistant coach with the UBC-Okanagan Heat, along with Jess Harms of Ladner, B.C. managed to outscore Full of Hits.
The Full of Hits squad featured three top-notch local volleyball players, Mick Windt, Kris Brand, outside hitter with the University of Saskatchewan Huskies, national team member and currently a professional volleyball player in Europe and Julie Herringshaw, outside hitter with the MacEwan Griffins.
“Dallas’s friends and family would like to thank everyone for coming out to play, cheer, and show their support,” organizer Corey Lougheed said.
“We also want to extend special thanks to Mr. Mikes, a long time generous sponsor of the tournament.
“We also thank the Quesnel Youth Soccer Association for the use of the soccer fields.”
In addition to honouring the memory of their friend Dallas, organizers of the Dallas Faeh Memorial Tournament also use the occasion to raise funds for the Quesnel Search and Rescue and the Highway Search and Rescue.
“They played a critical role in helping locate Dallas when he went missing,” Lougheed said.
“We thank them and similar organizations who help people in their greatest time of need.”
To date, the tournament has raised close to $5,000 for the Quesnel Search and Rescue and the Highway Search and Rescue.
Other winners at the tournament included the Milwaukee Frisbee Club in the competitive B-division and FSU in the recreational division.
