The 2014 campaign has largely been a struggle for the West Coast League’s Kelowna Falcons, but hasn’t stopped Scotland Church from earning some individual recognition.
The outfielder/DH from Lubbock, TX is the lone Falcons’ player selected to take part in the WCL all-star game on Monday night in Klamath Falls, OR.
Through the club’s first 32 games, the 5-foot-10, 180-pound Church was batting
.286, with one home run, 12 RBIS and six doubles.
His 32 hits—one of them a two-run homer on Tuesday in Klamath Falls—was tops on the Kelowna roster this season.
At the all-star game, Church will be a member of the North team, consisting of players from Wenatchee, Yakima, Victoria, Walla Walla and Bellingham. The North is managed Ed Knaggs, the Head Coach of the Wenatchee Applesox.
The South team is comprised of players from Kitsap, Cowlitz, Corvallis, Bend, Medford and host Klamath Falls. They will be managed by Mitch Karraker, the head coach of the host Gems.
The WCL all-star festivities will also feature a home run derby prior to the start of the game itself at Kiger Stadium.
In 2008, Falcons’ outfielder Nick Freitas won the Derby and is the only Falcon to do so.
Meanwhile, the Falcons continue their longest road trip of the WCL season this weekend in Medford, OR. Kelowna will close out a nine-game tour south of the border next Thursday night in Wenatchee against the Apple Sox.
Kelowna returns home Friday, July 25 when they take on the Yakima Valley Pippins to open a three-game series at Elks Stadium.
The Falcons are coming off their first series win since June 18 and 19, as they took two of three games this week from the Klamath Falls Gems.
