Falcons close out tough season with series win over Wentatchee

Tough season under first year coach ends with Kelowna beating defending champs on home field

The Kelowna Falcons finished the 2013 season on a positive with an 8-3 win over the defending West Coast League champion Wenatchee Applesox and would win the series.

After the Applesox scored first in the top of the second inning off Falcons’ start Karl Myers, the bats awoke and scored two runs in the bottom of the inning as Dawson Yates and Robby Witt drove in Reed Lavallee and Scotland Church.

The Sox would regain the lead in the top of the fourth inning when ex-Falcon Brock Slavin hit a two run double.

However the Falcons would get a two run double of their own in the fifth inning when Jarryd Klemm drove in Witt and Darren Kolk with a shot off the wall.

With the Falcons up 4-3 in the seventh inning, the home side would send nine men to the plate, scoring four runs on five hits to extend their lead.  Klemm would bring in his third RBI of the game, while Church and Nathan Robertson also drove in runs.

Myers recorded his third win of the summer, throwing five innings and striking out four.  Joshua Spence was terrific through three innings, scattering three hits and striking out one.

The Falcons finish the regular season at 19-35.  The players will begin to head home on Monday morning in preparation for the school season.
