The Kelowna Falcons open the 2017 West Coast League playoffs this week. But exactly who they will face won’t be decided until the end of tonight’s game between Corvallis and Wenatchee.
On Tuesday morning, the Falcons will be travelling to either Bellingham or Victoria to begin the best-of-three WCL divisional playoff round.
If Corvallis wins over the Apple Sox tonight, Victoria is in. However, if Wenatchee wins then the Falcons will take on the Bellingham Bells.
“It makes it a bit difficult on our coaches not knowing where we are going,” says Falcons General Manager Mark Nonis. “The one thing we do know is that we are hosting Games 2 and 3 if necessary in front of our fans and we couldn’t be more excited.”
By winning the first half of the WCL’s season the Falcons clinched the first playoff spot and home field advantage.
Game 2 of the divisional round will be played at Elks Stadium on Wednesday night, with Game 3 if necessary on Thursday. This is the Falcons’ second playoff appearance in three seasons, after falling in the League Championship Round in 2015.
“Our fans this season have been absolutely amazing,” says Nonis. “We are all hopeful we come back from Bellingham or Victoria with an opportunity to clinch our division and give the chance for our fans to celebrate with us. It’s going to be one fun party and we are inviting the whole city to join us.”
It was Bellingham in 2015 that the Falcons beat in the divisional round at Elks Stadium to advance to their first ever WCL final.
Playoff tickets for Wednesday’s Game 2 are available now by visiting the Falcons website. The first pitch on Wednesday is set for 6:35 p.m.
