The Kelowna Falcons scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to push past the Bellingham Bells for a 6-5 victory in West Coast League baseball action on Monday evening at Elks Stadium.
The Bells would jump out to a lead after scoring a run in the top of the first inning off Falcons’ starter Jacob Phillips.
They would then add two more in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead.
In the bottom of the third inning the Falcons would finally come to life. Catcher Nolan Johnson would hit a two out-two run double scoring Scotland Church and Robby Witt, bringing the Falcons within one run.
In their next at bats the Falcons would take their first lead of the series with two more runs. Nathan Robertson would score on a Bells error before Nelson Benjamin scored on a Reed Lavallee single.
The lead would not last long as the Bells in the top of the fifth scored two more runs off Phillips. The runs would spell the end of the night for Phillips as he made way for reliever Karl Myers.
The score would stay 5-4 Bells until the bottom of the eighth inning. AJ Young and Benjamin would walk, and move to second and third on a wild pitch. James Sloan would run for Young. Lavallee drilled a ball to left field to score Sloan and Benjamin to give the Falcons a 6-5 lead.
Myers would then continue his dominance on his former team shutting them down in the ninth to record the win. He would throw 4.2 innings, scattering three hits while striking out three on route to his second win of the summer.
The Falcons (15-27) will now host the South Division leading Corvallis Knights (27-15) on a six game winning streak. Game one of the series goes Tuesday night at 6:35 p.m. at Elks. Nolan Savage will get the start for the Falcons.
