Fall Golf Ball sees big turnout

It’s just about time when the golf clubs get packed away in exchange for winter attire, skis and skates.

It’s just about time when the golf clubs get packed away in exchange for winter attire, skis and skates.

However, not before the Williams Lake Golf and Tennis Club hosted its annual Fall Golf Ball tournament last Saturday, Oct. 15 signifying the end of the season for the local links.

Twenty-six teams and 104 players out-lasted an early-morning freeze. Their patience was rewarded by a beautiful, sunny afternoon of golf.

The tournament, a four-team scramble format, was won by George McGibbon, Shane Wilkie, Chris Stevens and Cody Wells, who shot a four-man scramble score of 59.

 

Peewee Tier 2 Timberwolves rack up wins

 

The Williams Lake Peewee Tier 2 Timberwolves returned from Prince George last weekend with a couple of wins under their belts.

On Saturday, the T-wolves skated to a 7-1 league win over the spruce capital squad, highlighted by a four-point effort from Jordan Buntz.

Sunday, the lakecity squad continued its winning ways with a 4-3 win in its second consecutive matchup against the Prince George club. The win, said coaches, was impressive after battling back from a second period 2-1 deficit.

Williams Paynton scored all four goals for Williams Lake.

 

Spooky skate goes Saturday

 

Williams Lake’s Recreation Services, along with Johnston Meier Insurance, is offering a free, public Halloween skate this Saturday, Oct. 22.

Dress up in your finest Halloween costume, or don’t, the skate goes from 1 to 2:30 p.m. in rink two at the Cariboo Memorial Recreation Complex.

Stamps set to host Roos

 

The Williams Lake Stampeders and the Quesnel Kangaroos renew their old Cariboo Hockey League rivalry but, this time, under the moniker of the Central Interior Hockey League.

The Stamps are out to a 3-1 start to the campaign, while the visiting ‘Roos are a perfect 4-0.

The Kangaroos, new to the CIHL this year, and the Stampeders both compete in the league’s East Division.

Game time is this Saturday, Oct. 22, 7:30 p.m. at the Cariboo Memorial Complex.
