Family bike ride planned

Move for Health Day is Friday, May 1 – Rec Report, April 15

Move for Health Day

B.C. Recreation and Parks Association, with support from Healthy Families B.C., leads our province in supporting an international event created by the World Health Organization in 2002 promoting physical activity.

Move for Health Day is celebrated all over our province in early May. It is estimated that in 2014, 18,000+ participated in events and activities in various communities throughout British Columbia.

Grand Forks Recreation has also been promoting Move for Health Day in our community for years. We have held a variety of events supporting healthy living in our region.

To celebrate Move for Health Day 2015, GFREC is hosting a family bike ride Friday, May 1 along the Trans Canada Trial from Cascade Falls to Grand Forks City Park. Meet at the Grand Forks arena by 9:30 a.m. and be transported for free to the start point at Christina Lake.

It will be an amazing family event featuring the Trans Canada Trail and all of the natural beauty along the way. Make sure to dress for the weather, bring water, snacks and don’t forget your helmet. Children under the ages of 10 must be accompanied by an adult.

Blood pressure clinic next week

Interior Health nurse Angie Burch will be set up in the aquatic centre lobby for a blood pressure clinic held Monday and Tuesday, April 20 and 21 from 8:30 to 10 a.m.

Angie brings with her a wealth of information on a variety of subjects concerning your health and well-being. If she doesn’t have the answer she will direct you accordingly. Take advantage of this free service taking place monthly at the Grand Forks Aquatic Centre.
