Family-friendly trails are right outside your door

Beaver Lodge lands provide easy access, mixed level of challenges for Campbell River mountain bikers

The Beaver Lodge lands are chock-full of trails, right in the middle of town and a great spot for any level of mountain biker.

I, like many of you, am lucky enough to live fairly close to the trails. I can whip in there after work for a quick ride, squeeze in an hour loop before work, or extend my commute with a great single track ride … but the best rides I have ever had in the Beaver Lodge lands are when I am riding with my little family.

Whether I’m towing Rhyley on the trail or she is riding her little mountain bike, she loves the forest and the trails, and watching her ride the single track is more amazing than any ride I’ve had with my buddies. Part of me wants her to never grow up, but part of me is looking forward to the near future when she is a bit older and faster and we can ride together at full speed. I just hope I can keep up.

Sometimes it is hard to motivate a kid to ride. I know she’ll love it, but getting her out the door can be a challenge. It can also be tough to teach her new things, like keeping her pedals level over the bumps and standing up to gain control. But if she is riding with other kids she can’t wait to get going and she advances much quicker. They feed off each other and it makes the rides much easier.

If you’re looking to get your child out for a ride, teach them a couple new things on the bike, or just meet some like-minded families who love to ride, check out the 5th annual Take a Kid Mountain Biking Day.

We want to encourage as many kids as possible to enjoy the cycling lifestyle and all the benefits that come with it. So grab your bike, grab your kids and join us this Sunday, Sept. 13, for a great kids ride through the Beaver Lodge lands. Click on Swickedcycles.com for all the details and free registration.
