Yet another record has hit the books for the mighty Parksville Royals baseball club.  The team finished Premier Baseball League play on Tuesday with an impressive 28-20 record to finish third overall and take home field advantage in the first round of the playoffs.

The last chance for baseball fans to come and see the team in “local” action will be this Saturday and Sunday at Springwood Park in Parksville. The team will be faciing off against arch rivals Langley Blaze in a best-of-three series to see who will advance to the Final Four championship tournament at Nat Bailey Stadium next weekend. Game times are 12:15 and 3 p.m. on Saturday, with the tie-breaker (if needed) going Sunday at 11 a.m.

“Come cheer on Comox Valley players Marcus Drewry, Ashton Martin and  Bryan Pawlina as they showcase their talents in these final Island games,” a Royals’ spokesperson said.

Meanwhile, Pawlina has been named to the 2011 Canada Cup Team to compete at the Canada Cup in Moncton, NB, Aug. 9-15.

“It’s been something I’ve dreamed about and have worked toward my whole baseball career,” he said. “I have had the opportunity to represent B.C. internationally on several occassions, but this is the ‘cream’ of baseball tournaments.  I am very honoured to have been chosen, and look forward to representing B.C., my Parksville Royals baseball club and the Comox Valley in Moncton.” Pawlina said.

“A special thank you to all my coaches, my parents, and the Comox Valley Lions Club for their support of my baseball career over the years.”
