The Stanley Humphries Secondary Rockers used a strong fast break and solid defence to crush the Rossland Royals 61-23 in junior girls basketball action on Thursday in Rossland.
Rachael teBulte led all scorers with 12 points, while Svetlana Hadikin and Angela Soukeroff added eight each.
“We were able to build a nice lead early using some nice long passes which led to easy basketball for our guards,” said coach Kim Matson. “Rossland’s 2-3 zone gave us some problems early, but after some adjustments we were able to work the ball around and get some great shots.”
In grade 8 action, the Rossland girls beat SHSS 32-19. Rossland used a strong zone defence to stymie the SH shooters.
Ashley Fidgettt led the Bulldogs with seven points, while Cameran Miller and Gabrielle Hanvold added four each.
“We had a lot of turnovers,” said coach Craig Lindsay. “Rossland put good pressure on our guards. It didn’t help that we had a short bench, but then again, so did Rossland, so that’s no excuse. On a positive note, we shot the ball much better than last week and made some very good passing plays.”
