Female hockey title for Fraser Valley

Four skaters with Chilliwack ties helped their Fraser Valley team to a 4-0 record and BC Winter Games gold.

Chilliwack skaters helped their Fraser Valley zone team win gold at the BC Winter Games in Mission, capping the tournament with a 3-2 win over Fraser River-Delta.

The Fraser Valley roster included three Chilliwack skaters; goalie Kate Stuart and forwards Tamina Kehler and Ryann Allenby.

Abbotsford native McKenna Unger, the starting netminder, plays her minor hockey in the Chilliwack system.

Unger’s team opened Friday morning with an 8-0 throttling of Kootenay, with Kehler picking up a goal.

They beat Vancouver Island – Central Coast 4-3 Friday night, then edged North East – Central 2-1 Saturday morning.

Kehler picked up an assist in the gold medal match. Alicia Perez (Surrey), Priya Sidhu (Surrey) and Alexis Kahlert (Maple Ridge) had the goals. Kahlert’s game winner came with just 3:25 to play.
