Kelowna's Female Peewee A Rockets celebrate the champion's title at the team's annual tournament Sunday in Kelowna.

The Kelowna Female Peewee A Rockets made the most of home ice advantage over the weekend by capturing the gold medal at their own hockey tournament.

In Sunday’s championship final, the Rockets fought back from a 3-0 deficit to edge the Tri-Cities Predators 4-3 in a shootout.

“It was incredibly exciting to watch,” said Rockets head coach Kevin England. “The girls didn’t give up and managed to tie up the game in the last few minutes.”

The Rockets and Predators were tied 3-3 through regulation, then played through a scoreless five-minute overtime to force the shootout.

Kelowna won the game when Kelowna goalie, Ally Wark, stopped the second Predators shooter. Rockets’ defenceman Kaedence Mollin scored the decisive goal with a shot just under the Predator goalie’s blocker.

“It was pretty dramatic,” said assistant coach Tanya Leone, “and nice to see the girls get rewarded for all their hard work.”

The Kelowna Female A Rockets went 4-1 during the tournament, including a win over the reigning provincial champion Richmond Ravens.
