Members of the school district fencing team and Okanagan Freestyle Fencing Club struck medals in the B.C. Championships last weekend at the Olympic Oval in Richmond.
Carlie Bickel, a 17-year-old Seaton student, earned a bronze medal in the Cadet women’s épée, with her little sister Landrey placing sixth.
Jaxsen MacKay brought home the bronze in the U14 boys épée, and his clubmate David Enns of Kal secondary took bronze in the U17 boys épée.
Beairsto students Andrew Schmidt, Josh Beka, Ian Oliphant and Christopher Dlouhy went up against older competition in the U12 and U14 divisions and represented their school well.
In the senior open division, Matt Clarke collected silver in the men’s group, with Brendan Robertson placing fifth in a strong field of 30 fencers. Rebecca McOnie brought home bronze in senior women’s épée.
