The Super League capped off another successful season with a single-night slate of playoff games Thursday, January 12, 2012.

The Kootenay Savings Super League capped off another successful season with a single-night slate of playoff games Thursday.

The format for the eight-team league playoff was 1 vs 2, 3 vs 4, 5 vs 6, and 7 vs 8.

The  first-place Rob Ferguson rink took on Fred Thomson and his 5N Plus team from Nelson.

Ferguson jumped into a commanding lead, taking four points in the first frame and stealing three more in the second to gain an early advantage, and win the game 10-1.

The 3-4 game was very similar, as Myron Nichol and his West Kootenay Mechanical squad broke open a 2-2 deadlock with a big five ender in the fourth end, and go on to defeat Brad Morehouse 11-3.

The best match of the night saw Desiree Schmidt lock horns with Ken Fines and his Men’s team from Trail.

This game saw the lead change three separate times as Fines held a 4-3 lead going into the last end.  With Schmidt having last rock advantage, she made a delicate tap back to score two and win the game 5-4.

The 7-8 game saw Rose and Russ Beauchamp do battle as the two Maglio sponsored rinks faced off.

The Men’s team prevailed on this night as they used a good hitting strategy to put the Ladies in trouble on several ends.

Russ scored two in the sixth end and stole one more point in the seventh to break this one open. Make the final Maglio’s Men 8 Maglio’s Ladies 5.

All the members of the Super League would like to thank Kootenay Savings for their generous sponsorship and look forward to playing next year.
