The Fernie 3, the ultimate all-mountain three-day classic mountain bike stage race, offers something for everybody from June 27-29. The Fernie 3 is being held on Fernie’s spectacular singletrack mountain bike trails on the pre-Canada Day weekend. The organizers work to offer events for all riders.
The Fernie 3 caters to riders of all ages, both new and old, beginners and gnarled veterans alike — with a focus on fun on the best singletrack stages ever. The categories will feature a traditional three day solo stage race and will also include a one day solo, a youth race for U13 and U16 and a bike rally for U9.
For day one, Saturday June 27, the three and one day solo, and U13 and U16 races will be staged from The Cedars where riders will race on trails at Fernie Alpine Resort, Fernie Mountain Park and Island Lake Lodge.
On day two, Sunday June 28, the event moves to the Fernie Aquatic Centre where riders will enjoy Castle Mountain and Ridgemont trails. Day two also features the popular Kids’ Bike Rally. This event is in its ninth year and is free for kids’ aged three to nine. The rally is fun and educational. To sign up for the Kids’ Bike Rally visit Gear Hub on 4th Street in downtown Fernie.
On day three, Monday June 29, the event continues for the three-day soloists at the Fernie Aquatic Centre where riders will enjoy a final ride on the Montane and Ridgemont trails. Each day the riders will climb over 1000 m and cover 30 km of singletrack – those who finish will be treated to a very popular Fernie beer!
The City of Fernie has generously provided Resort Municipality Initiative (RMI) funds to help support this destination tourism event. The RMI program was developed in 2006 and includes development, business promotion and financing tools to enhance the resort sector in B.C.
“The funding support from the Resort Municipality Initiative program will help enhance the event participants experience and ensure everything is at a higher standard,” stated Dan Savage, Event Director. RMI funding invested in trail development in recent years has helped with the trail network that allows events such as this to be held in Fernie.
