It’s not very often that a player scores five goals in a game and even less likely that they lose, but that’s what happened in the Bear 6-5 win over Fraser River.
The see-saw contest featured the Chevy Crew holding several leads but it was an unlikely trigger man for Bear as Steve (Stamkos) Dodge fired a one-timer into the top shelf that proved to be the difference maker.
Previously, another grizzled veteran, George (Ironman) Ryan had scored the Bear hat-trick as Dan (The Man) Lowndes and Ian (Heartbreaker) Hannah combined for five points. Research is continuing on the last FHL player to score five goals in a game, but suffice to say that nobody has ever scored all five of his team’s goals like Kevin (Knightrider) Hesslegrave managed to on Wednesday. Most of the markers came on great individual efforts with Grant (Plants) Johannesen the only other GM player to have more than one assist.
The other contest turned out to be the regular season clincher as BCS had no trouble with Serenity in the 8-3 pummelling.
Leading his newly adopted team to the victory was Justin (Time) Rasmussen who scored the winner unassisted on his way to the hat trick.
Also having fine mornings were Richard (Bowling Ball) Lindstrom who scored twice and added an assist on Chris (Bowling Pin) Royle’s third point of the game.
Despite the loss, Serenity is still clinging to second place which would give them home ice advantage for their round robin contests versus Bear and Fraser River. Managing to solve the riddle known as Uncle Mike, was Darcy (Doctor) McGillivray, Les (Knuckles) Nylen and Lee (Nitro) Naeth who actually extended his scoring lead to five with one game remaining.
This week in Season 1 (1995): (BIG) Bob Merta earned the hat trick as his Black squad notched 5 unanswered goals to defeat Gold 5-2. The rough and tumble affair featured 2 ejections as Gold’s Brian (Kit Kat) Nielson and Blacks Shane (Original Pain) O’Neill were both sent to early showers. The other contest saw the Triple T line of Todd, Tuffy and Taylor dominate with Todd Madill (Pickle) earning a well oiled hat trick in the 8-4 Green victory.
