Fight it, or Take Advantage of the Situation???
Lately life has been tough. It’s great, but tough.
With reno’s, busy kids, and currently working through a shoulder injury, I’m feeling a bit older than normal.
Having said that I normally feel way less than my true age, so currently I feel about as old as my birth certificate says.
I’m still doing alright, but I prefer the healthy and spry James to this tired and injured version.
This last weekend my two nephews came to visit and we had all sorts of fun planned.
I figured with two 20 something’s hanging out for a few days, it would get me back in the groove and feeling young again. We had a blast, caught up on each other’s lives, and even managed to squeeze in some sport.
Sadly this is where it all went wrong.
I am 53, they are 24 and 25. They are both great athletes, big, and strong. Did I mention I’m 53 and have a shoulder injury?
Anyway, they tackle anything that comes up with ease and grace, where I was kind of limping through behind them.
The one thing I can still do as well as them is biking, but I don’t have bikes big enough for them, so I didn’t even get to shine in that regard.
Sunday afternoon we had to load some heavy stuff into my truck and reality slapped me right in the face, when my oldest nephew looked at me concerned and said, “Hey Uncle James, maybe you should let us handle this.”
So, I can look at it as feelling old due to an injury, accept the reality that I’m in my 50’s and my prime is behind me, or just let them do all the heavy lifting while I hang out with a beverage and yell instructions at them.
Hmmm… Maybe I’ll get back to rehab and hang onto some semblance of youth for a few more years.
