Figure-skating trio sweep podium in Kelowna

White Rock-South Surrey Skating Club fares well at conclusion of series

A trio of White Rock-South Surrey Skating Club members swept all three podium spots in their division at the BC/Yukon Super Series StarSkate finals earlier this month.

Zoe Lundgren won gold, Allison Jones grabbed silver and Vanessa Ferronato snagged bronze in the Star 5 girls 13-and-under category at the event. Results were determined by taking each skater’s top three scores from throughout the Super Series season, with trophies handed out to the top three.

The awards were handed out during a competition March 3-5 in Kelowna.

At the March 4 event itself, Lundgren again won gold, while Allison took home silver. Ferronato placed sixth at the event – an impressive finish considering she recently returned from having a broken foot.

Despite missing time during the competitive season with her injury, her results from earlier in the year were enough to snag her the aforementioned overall bronze.

Other WRSSSC members who competed at the Kelowna event were Ciara Chapman and Sophie Kardosi, who both received a bronze ranking in the Star 2 division; Annika Ferronato, who landed three double jumps and cracked the top-10 in the pre-juvenile under-11 division; and Sophie Maskall, who finished seventh in the Star 6 category.

Next up for WRSSSC skaters is an event in Parksville in April – the start of the next competitive season.
