First field hockey games of the season go Sunday

The Comox Valley Field Hockey League is having their first interclub games of the season on May 1 and May 8 at Queneesh Elementary School field. The U14 team will take on the U16 team at 10 to 11 a.m. while the U18 with play the ladies team at 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

The club started their season indoors at the Comox Recreation Centre and now with practices outdoors, they are looking ahead to play games in Cowichan and Victoria.  Tournaments held in North Vancouver, Delta and Kelowna are some of the highlights of the season.

“After a great skills clinic with Canadian national player Ali Lee, the girls are anxious to try out some new skills,” a CVFHL spokesperson said.

The ladies team is looking for more players and their practices are held every Tuesday at Queneesh from 7 to 8 p.m. “Continue with your high school passion for field hockey and come out and join the team,” the spokesperson said.

Attending the Vancouver International Tournament during the May long weekend is one tournament that the ladies have been working towards.

“If you’ve never seen the sport played or am curious about field hockey, come out and watch the girls and ladies,” said the spokesperson.
