Terrace resident Ed Ansems is back from the B.C. Half Marathon Championship with a first place finish for his age group.
Ansems, 63, placed first in the 60-64 age group with a time of 1 hour and 32 minutes. He also came 67th overall out of a record number of 640 other runners and walkers.
The 21 km race was held between Gibson and Sechelt B.C. on the Sunshine Coast April 1.
“I was very pleased with my first place finish,” Ansems said, adding that it was not easy for him to train for such an early race considering the ice and snow that was around for most of the winter.
“This race has to be one of the hardest half marathons in the province, most of the time you are either going uphill or downhill,” he said.
Ansems trained for this by making repeat runs on Lanfear and Kalum Lake Drive in Terrace.
This is the second year in a row that he has placed first for his age group at the B.C. Half Marathon Championship.
Ansems now plans to take a few days of rest before getting back to training. Next on his agenda is the Vancouver Half Marathon on May 1.
