Fish for our Future

Attention all halibut anglers it’s time for the 15th Annual Just For The Halibut Derby this Saturday and Sunday. Anglers will plying our local waters for a chance at the $7,500 first prize. If earlier catches are any indication Sooke could be where the winning fish is caught. With tides favouring Sooke to Port Renfrew this time around, let’s hope the big one  comes from here. The First halibut derby winner came from the Jordan River area. Al Crow  landed a 212- pounder off the Sooke Bluffs last week so you never know. The biggest ever caught in the derby is a 202-pounder. There’s a bonus prize of $20,000 for the first fish weighing-in over 202 pounds. Tickets can be purchased at the Crab Shack. Until next time.

Keep your rod tip up!
