Salmon fishing in Sooke has been getting better by the week, many anglers trolling are reporting spring salmon eight to 20 pounders quite consistently over the last two weeks.
Lately the “bite” seems to be early in the morning; out front of Sooke Harbour mouth, Trailer Park, Otter Point, or Trap Shack. Bright green or chartreuse spoons and anchovies trolled in bait heads behind your favorite flasher have been producing action from 65 to 120 feet on the downrigger, in 100 to 150 ft of water.
Halibut fishing continues to be good with some of the local spots closer to the Sooke Harbour mouth starting to produce more fish.
Crab fishing in the harbour has been getting much better with catches of large male Dungeness and red rock crabs coming in consistantly.
