FISHING ADVENTURES: Salmon, halibut plentiful in local hotspots

Coho and Pink salmon are now starting to show up in the area

Saltwater fishing for salmon and halibut in Sooke is good right now with great reports from boats going out fishing the local hotspots.

The marinas are filling up with boats, locals and visitors are getting some fish in the freezer for winter.

Coho and pink salmon are now starting to show up in the area, making it even easier to take some salmon home.

Small bait fish are found in the stomachs of many of the salmon caught, so trying a small needle fish design lure should work well. Gibbs Delta Skinny G series, Peetz Hookum series, and AP Tackle Needle fish have been producing larger spring salmon. Green, chartreuse, glow, and purple have been popular lure colours, for larger springs trolled deep behind your flasher.
