On Sunday, Island Pilates and Fitness hosts Bellyfit International founder Alice Bracegirdle and DJ Rowan in a community fundraiser to empower women and girls in the Comox Valley through fitness and dance.
If anyone is interested in investing in young women’s health and wellbeing, it is Bracegirdle. Once a single mom on welfare battling depression, exhaustion and poverty, she turned to her dance training and love of music to restore balance in her life. Through this work Bellyfit was created.
Bracegirdle and IPF director Leanne Zdebiak-Eni will lead participants in an exhilarating Bellyfit class. Bellydance, Bollywood and African are a few of the cultures on which Bellyfit draws inspiration for this unique and uplifting workout. Developed specifically for women, Bellyfit merges effective and energetic fitness training with the spirit of joy and practice of mindfulness. This special class will also feature three brand new formats: Bellyfit Warrior, Flow and Vibe, each bringing a different flavour and focus.
“With hundreds of certified Bellyfit instructors in dozens of countries, having Alice come here to share Bellyfit live with our community is an amazing opportunity for us,” says Zdebiak-Eni. “And we’re so excited to have DJ Rowan spinning live for us, we are looking forward to an amazing afternoon.”
Proceeds will benefit Girls on the MOVE, a LINC Youth Centre/Courtenay Rec. program to empower girls and young women through fitness, nutrition and healthy lifestyle choices.
Admission is by donation, with a suggested $10 median, July 28 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Native Sons Hall, 360 Cliffe Ave.
