In a gear-up for their home-opening date where they’ll host the northwest region, the Charles Hays Secondary (CHSS) Rainmakers’ track team sent five athletes to Prince George for the Sub Zero Meet.
Hosted by the Prince George Track and Field Club, the five athletes all set personal bests in one of the first competitions of the season for track and field.
Jason Rioux led the charge from Charles Hays, as he achieved a first-place finish in long jump and high jump and two second-place finishes in triple jump and the 100 m race (boys aged 16-17 category).
Charles Hays’ Robert Warren won the discus event and placed fifth in javelin for 16-17-year-old boys, while Avery Taylor finished third in javelin and third in 800 m for 16-17-year-old boys.
Arden Stewart won the javelin event for girls’ aged 16-17 and Jessica Nguyen placed sixth in long jump out of 22 participants and eighth in hurdles for girls’ aged 14-15.
The Rainmakers, led by coach Dighton Haynes, will now host their regional meet this Saturday, May 7 at the CHSS track and take on teams from across the northwest.
