“I’m a little worried we are going to have to cancel for the second time in a row,” she said.

“If that happens we are going to lose the event.”

It’s not looking good right now and Tara Fookes, organizer of the upcoming Powered by Heart women’s fitness challenge. admitted she needs a stronger response from the women of Quesnel.

“I’m a little worried we are going to have to cancel for the second time in a row,” she said.

“If that happens we are going to lose the event.”

Powered by Heart, Fookes explained is a fitness challenge for all women aged 16 or older.

Ann Regner, co-organizer of the event, said the business community is very supportive of the event, but finding participants is proving to be a challenge.

The fitness challenge  is about community involvement and not about women setting fitness records, Fookes said.

“This is for fun,” she said.

“It’s for health,” Regner added.

Fookes and Regner organized the event for the community, to promote health and fitness among the women of Quesnel.

At the same time, the fitness challenge that has a participation fee of $65 per person, or $180 for a team of three, serves as a fundraiser for the Quesnel Women’s Resource Centre.

The fitness challenge is divided into two age categories, 16 – 18, as well as 19 and older.

Fookes and Regner hope to see different community groups challenge each other for a few hours of fun doing the eight fitness challenges.

“We’ve contacted the RCMP and the fire hall,” Regner said, adding teachers and students from CSS and QJS would be a natural challenge.

Powered by Heart includes eight events, quarter curls, box hops, pallet pull, skidder flip, sandbag carry, lady-justice lift, tire toss and two obstacle courses.

Deadline for registration is Oct. 14.

If the organizers do not receive enough registrants, Fookes said they will be forced to cancel the event, again.
