Forestry Hockey League

The Forestry Hockey League teams face red hot goalies and and goalies bathed in red light.

With not much to build on the past few games except trying to avoid the sunburn that the goal light was giving them after 15 sessions in the past two weeks, the Builders threw everything at Bear and were rewarded with a 7-1 beat down victory.

Surprisingly, the contest was anybody’s early on as the teams shared quality chances before a little bit of nasty between two feisty combatants raised the stakes which Serenity went all in on.

Finding his inner dojo was (Bruce) Lee Naeth who skewered the flat footed Bears for four goals as Jim (Samurai) Scott kinteki-geri’d his way to a trio of assists and countless defensive gems to stymie the Bear attackers.

Adding a goal and two assists was Doug Mack (Attack) who has already surpassed his last years totals thanks to his new fitness regime.

The player of the game for Serenity was their red tinged net-minder Mike (Master Po) Burke who, thanks to his inner warrior pregame meditation ritual, was able to build an impenetrable fortress in front of what often appeared to be a yawning cage.

Bear is hoping that the return of the NHL will awaken them from a January slumber that could turn into a recurring nightmare unless they find their mojo PDQ.

The game between the two hottest teams in the league turned out to be a heaven forbid barn burner on Barlow that saw Fraser River come back to knot the contest five all in the final minute to spoil Blue Collars three game winning streak attempt.

BCS actually iced twice as many skaters as GM as they finally featured their much heralded star studded line-up.

Leading the way for the cellar dwellers was Kevin (David) Hesslegrave who scored a pair, added two assists and called a no goal on himself despite the pleadings of his captain.

Also rippling the mesh twice was Jim (Soupy) Sales who, despite barely fitting into his hockey pants, displayed the silky hands that his legend was made from.

Stepping up in the Macho Man department for the Chevy Crew was Shane (Tiger) Thon who displayed what can only be described as a Lance Armstrong like performance as he scored the hat trick including the tying goal while logging 55 minutes of ice time!

Also having a big game for GM was Ken (Mercury) McMillan who collected three assists while terrorizing the BCS defence as he, unlike (Tiger) Thon, barely broke a sweat.
